My note to Baltimore peeps is to please check out my new classes in Catonsville. https://susanweisbohlen.com/events-1
Join me in The Loft at Atwater’s Cafe (815 Frederick Rd, Catonsville, MD 21228). We will gather in this sunny, private space, most Tuesdays in April and May from 10 am - 12 pm to write. Writing with a group is an act of healing, kindness, and generosity. Your words need to be written, shared, and heard by others. The methods I use allow you to discover your stories (and you have them!) through guided meditation and prompts. You will write, read, listen, and learn what inspires and moves others through positive and supportive feedback. Even if you have never written anything beyond a grocery list, I can guide you to a place where you will be amazed. It’s only $28 a session. To save your space, venmo me @susan-weis-bohlen (last 4 of my cell are 2096) or zelle 4109792096 and RSVP to me at susan@susanweisbohlen.com. Only 8 people per session. There won’t be a class on May 14 as I will be leading a Write & Roam Retreat in West Virginia. (it’s full but there is a waitlist!)
Now, if you are not in Baltimore - the rest of the newsletter includes you!
I’ve had several requests for the link to my Israel/Bad Boyfriend piece. Here it is -
And I was just on this podcast with Jennifer Hess Mitchell, who I know from my bookstore - she is delightful! Take a listen. It’s ALL Ayurveda. It will make you feel good.
COME AWAY WITH ME! https://susanweisbohlen.com/retreats
During COVID one of the things that was hardest on me was not being able to plan trips, not taking you on amazing excursions, and not having those truly unique foreign experiences. Perhaps that is why I have gone TRIP CRAZY! Planning Write & Roam retreats well into 2025! We’ve got Bhutan, Iceland, India, and Cuba in the queue. I only take 8-10 people on my trips to keep them intimate, cozy, and easy, and we can all sit together at one table for meals! All the trips have people signed up already, so if you want to come, be in touch ASAP. I’m happy to talk to you about it, describe the writing process, how we travel, who comes, etc.
One thing I aim for is to make sure you see and experience the maximum, without feeling depleted. We have time for a good rest upon arrival to acclimate to the time and climate. I try to have us stay 2-3 nights in a hotel (or more!) if we are traveling from place to place, so you don’t need to pack and unpack all the time. (In Iceland, besides a rest in Reykjavik upon arrival, we are 6 nights in the same hotel). Roomy busses so you can spread out. Time to explore on your own, relax, sit in a cafe, have a spa service, and hang out with the locals.
Tell me why you love to travel in the comments. I travel because I thrive in new places that take me out of my day-to-day. Exotic landscapes remind me that the world is huge. My senses are renewed with new sounds, sights, smells, and tastes. I feel like I belong in the world. I love meeting people different than me, hearing their language, and seeing how they live. There is NOTHING that I don’t love about travel! Even the long flights are a break from the world.
The only negative is leaving my dogs behind. But hey, if I meet one oversees that I love, I bring them home (Joonie, 2015, Pune, India)
I get so excited when I plan trips - I imagine every step from the signups, to the flight, to the airport pickup, our hosts in the country, the bus or van, the hotels, restaurants, shopping, museums, temples, churches, boats — always leaving room for the unexpected serendipitous moments. Those are the best. And I love watching relationships form among people who have never met before.
I hope to hear from you! Please “like”, comment, or restack.
xo,
Susan
