Hello, my friends!
I’m just back from Israel where I had 10 fabulous days with my girlfriends. Relationships in Israel are incomparable to relationships anywhere else in the world (or so I think). Our connections are so deep and thick and unwavering. These women, Nita, Margie, Sandy, Michal, Shelley, Jennifer, Phyllis, their offspring, and the new friends they introduced me to, well, they are just terrific human beings who I cherish more than they know. But Israel is complicated and I wrote a piece about it on medium.
Back to business. My business is so fun I never think of it as business, but I guess it is. So just a few things.
If you missed my really fun conversation with Pure Indian Foods, here’s the link. We talk about my new book, The Beginner’s Guide to Ayurvedic Home Remedies, and how to apply Ayurvedic techniques to your everyday routine to keep you healthy and happy.
September 1 at Manor Mill will be a lovely event celebrating my books! Check out the special events page for details about the book talk. And while you are there be amazed by everything they offer! I began teaching there this summer and I am simply in love with the place! I have a few other things going on there this fall. Search by date, Sunday, September 10 at 2 pm and Sunday, September 24 at 10 am to get more information on introduction to writing salons. (sorry it’s kind of clunky - I can’t get a direct link with the details)
I’m super excited to be hosted for a presentation about the new book by the Baltimore County Public Library, even on Zoom! Here’s the link for my talk, which will be on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 7 pm. They do require registration so please do click the link and sign up for the free talk. If you can’t make it that evening, they will send you a link to the recording. My favorite part of these talks is the conversation I get to have with you all! Bring it on! Problems sleeping? Skin issues? General aches and pains? Let’s talk about it and I’m happy to offer you some advice from the ancient science of Ayurveda.
For many many years, I taught classes at Roland Park Country School, in their Kaleidoscope program. After a hiatus during the Covid years, they are coming back! I have two classes there beginning in September/October with writing salons and in November for meditation classes. Take a look here for details. Scroll down to Fall 2023. Writing Salons will be Mondays from 6 pm to 8 pm on Sept. 11, & 18, and Oct. 9 & 16. Meditation classes are on Mondays, 6 pm - 7:30 pm, Nov. 13, 20, 27 & Dec. 4. It will be great to see you there!
FREE ZOOM WRITING SALONS! I would love for you to pop in and see what all this writing stuff is about. Many people going on my Iceland Writing Retreat (room for two more in week two!!) will be on the call and I would love for you to come too. I’ll talk about how the writing process works, we will do a short meditation and I’ll lead you into a prompt and we will write together for 15 minutes. Then we will share (always optional) our writing with the group. The magic is in the feedback. We tell you what we loved, what touched us, what we saw and heard in the piece. Encouragement, support, and love are all you need to keep you excited about writing! Join me on one of these dates. Space is limited so email me right away to save your spot, at susan@breatheayurveda.com. The session will last 1 to 2 hours depending on how many people are in the group:
Friday, Aug. 25, 11 am
Tuesday, Sept. 5, 7 pm
Sunday, Sept. 17 at 1 pm
Look out for this newsletter on Friday as I’m gathering up all sorts of goodies my friends and colleagues are offering this fall. If you have something you want me to list let me know! I love getting the word out and helping others.
Here are some links to videos from Israel. I find the Muslim Call to Prayer to be one of the most beautiful, mesmerizing sounds. I recorded a few. Also inspiring was to be part of the demonstrations against the government bowing to extremists. Here are some sights and sounds from my summer vacation. Here, here and here.
Ok so this might be weird, but I have a thing about Jewish hair…big, fat, curly Jewish hair. When I was in Israel I took some pictures of that gorgeous Israeli/Jewish hair. Here are a few shots and one of me back in the day in Tel Aviv (circa 1988) when I was really rockin’ that ethnic look. Enjoy!
Shalom. Love. Peace. Salam.
Susan
